my brother, artists and performers
02.19.05 (12:15 am) [edit]
havn't blogged anything in a while so i thought i'd write a little bit.
my brother joshua is a gifted musician and songwriter. he has written some songs that haved moved me to my very core. he is profound and rather wise for being so young.
he writes about his life experiences, which is a common thing with artists i know, his work with homeless people, his loves, and lost loves, his faith, and his family.
he also writes from his imagination. songs about people no one knows becasue they do not exist, but people who you have met, or have read about. caricatures might be the right word.
he has self produced many CD's and i am proud to say i have them all. i find it amazing that whenever i let people listen to them they say wow that is beautiful, or where can i buy one. i have to tell them that my brother has no record deal and really he is not pursuing one.
talking to him tonight i was blessed when he told me that if the music he makes is just for the people who have heard it, and they love it, then he has been successful.
what a complete opposite attitude than most performers we see today. unfortunatly i have been forced to watch american idol. my daughter is a fan, only God knows why, and so i have watched it with her. funny thing is i have never seen the competitive part only the 50 or so pre-episodes where we see really bad singers and those who do not have "the look" get canned. you know the episodes where we find out who actually gets to be in the show, and who just gets left behind for america to laugh at or cry for.
the funny thing to me is that none of these people seem to care if they effect others lives, they just want to be famous. they sing the same lame songs, and although some of them are very good, i am always left with the feeling that they could just as well be doing anything as long as they become famous.
i guess what i am trying to say is they are not artists, they are simply performers, and in my mind there is a world of difference. i'd rather listen to 10 minutes of nirvana, U2, sound garden, dave matthews, b.b. king, stevie ray vahn, or my brother than to go to an all day concert featuring performers. you know who they are i don't need to list them.
performers have there place, but artist have an historic place. no one remebers who played mozart, they remeber what mozart created.
so i leave you with a quote from lyrics my brotehr has written
let us fight against injustice let us carry the cross let us sell all we own and give to the lost
cause if i'm truly crucified with Jesus what do i have to lose is my money a position a rock, a stone tied to me thrown into the sea?

it still hurts

we left our last church sept. 2003. we left for a variety of reasons, and of course gossip and rumors spread about my family and me. we were unteachable, hard hearted, influenced by a bad element, and so on. i was even accused of verbally assaultng one of the ushers who called my house.
we have struggled with losing all of our "friends", relationships we thought were fairly solid vanished virtually overnight. we have lamented the callousness of those who did not even call to see how we were, if we needed prayer or help. we have spent sleepless nights and haggard days praying for fellowship and solace. the only friends we had were those few who left arounf the same time we did for the same reasons, not a lot this was by no means an infamous church split.
now, light has been shed on the whole matter at our former church. corruption has been rooted out, and the "sheeple" have seen for themselves the wolf in lambs clothing. i find it hard to have much compassion for those who now hurt like we did and do. it would have taken, but a few moments to point out what they now know. instead they are realing in shock and wondering how this could have happened, and i so very much want to say "i could have told you so".
that of course is not what Jesus would do, so i won't, or maybe i just did. i do feel saddened for those who trusted and confided in the wolf, and the damage will continue in some of thier lives for quite a while. i thought i would feel better and the truth would set me free, but i don't and it hasn't and so i patiently wait for the Lord to heal the wounds completly.
i will continue to pray for those who now know what i have known, and the Lord in His time will heal us all. so i leave you with this, if you are a believer pray for me and my family and the "new" wounded. pray for love and forgivness to encapsulate us. if you are not a believer send your good thoughts and well wishes for the same.

super sunday
02.02.05 (1:19 am) [edit]
oh, yeah baby it's THE most wonderful time of the year. super bowl. the ultimate in american commercialism and worship of success by any means necessary.
this year we have two great teams playing in the bowl. the new engalnd patriots and the philadelphia eagles. both of these teams i couldn't care less for. and why you may ask? because the are not my beloved dallas coboys (God's team).
let us start with the eagles. division rivals of God's team so obviously they are from the debil. not only that they have a real problem with fan control. phili fans throw frozen batteries at opposing teams and many more such evil deeds, and to make it even worse they have T.O. terrel owens the outspoken fool of a man who's talent is incredible and whose attitude sucks. he has defaced the blessed star at texas stadium and if he is ever caught alone in the great state of texas he could very well be MIA forever. his antics are shameless and he is the poster boy for pride and non-sportsmanship.
now the pats, well they are a team that IMHO is unstoppable, and that just doesn't set well with me. i mean i see no real weakness at all and that makes me dislike them, but what makes me dislike them even more is they have no great strength either. talking to a friend today he asked if i could name one receiver on the team, i can’t can you? to add insult to injury tom brady is just the all american stud who has it all, money, great career, and good looks to boot. how can you root for such a man. i've seen him on letterman and he even seems like a descent guy, all the more reason to hope he blows out a knee and has to go to work for FOX.
all that aside, of course i will be glued to the set this sunday. i have never missed a super bowl in my life and this will not be the first. i love the game, even if i dislike the teams in it. it is like a major holiday, and i for one would love to see it get recognition for being just that. a congressional proclamation that super sunday is the most all american day of the year. businesses, save sports bars, would have to close so that all the fans could see the game.
getting together with friends and family to watch the greatest of all sporting events, yeah right the world cup may be more popular but who is paying millions for a minute of air time for that snooze fest, and kick back a few beers, have some great food and just enjoy an evening of pure entertainment. what a charmed life we live, eh.
God bless America and God bless football ( the real football not that soccer crap).
